Personal Monogram
VCD 2: Typography Personal Monogram - Spring 2021 For my monogram, I had begun my exploration across a vast amount of inspirations, ranging from graffiti, to industrialization, to anarchist runes, ect. What I've come to land on is rooted in abstract futurism with a strong geometric basis. The craft of the monogram is derived from an obsessive use of a 4:3 ratio in its construction, including the ratio of the height and the width of the overall monogram, the relationship of the center of the diamond to the top and bottom of the monogram, and the diameter of the arc that spans the top. After playing a great deal with line, I decided to have the outside ascenders show the literal V of my surname and the counterspace express the W of my first name. The inspiration of this final monogram is reminiscent of a robotic alien race from a futuristic society, placing its mark as it explores the stars.
